Snow Wardens and Winter Plan
We're looking for more community-minded volunteers to help their neighbours during snowy or frosty conditions by shovelling snow or spreading salt on pavements in the areas where they live. Some of the members of the present team are getting on a bit and we need younger muscle! We haven't had to call on the team in recent years, but we need to be prepared if bad weather were to hit us.
Snow wardens are important and valued members of pour community. We are totally dependent on them to keep our roads, pavements and footpaths safer for everyone throughout the winter – particularly for elderly and vulnerable residents who cannot help themselves. The scheme is a great way of getting communities working together during bad weather. We also encourage businesses who want to do their bit by clearing snow from around their places of work.
Don’t be deterred from shifting snow yourself for fear of legal repercussions. According to the Government website: ‘There’s no law stopping you from clearing snow and ice on the pavement outside your home or from public spaces. It’s unlikely you’ll be sued or held legally responsible for any injuries on a path if you have cleared it carefully.’
The project has been set up by the Parish Council in partnership with Oxfordshire County Council and Cherwell District Council and is based on similar operations already up and running in many towns and cities across the country.
If you would like to join the Snow Warden volunteers, please contact the Clerk at [email protected]
