Speed Watch
Community Speed Watch (CSW) is a locally driven initiative where members of the local community work in partnership with the Police to monitor the speeds of vehicles using a speed detection device, on roads that have a 30 mph or 40 mph posted speed limit.
CSW is not enforcement, it is a scheme aimed at educating drivers about the road safety concerns that the community has about the roads in the Deddington, Clifton and Hempton villages. It is important to know that CSW now forms part of the police’s response to road safety issues. It is the first tier in our response to dealing with speed related problems on certain roads.
If a road safety problem persists, the police will escalate matters to the next level by providing the data obtained by the CSW volunteers to the Thames Valley Road Safety Partnership to secure the services of the Road Safety Camera Vans, to support funding applications for road safety signs, for example, Vehicle Activated Signs, and to identify and prioritise locations for local road safety enforcement.
Road safety continues to be a concern for the local community in both the rural and urban environments. Therefore, CSW is not restricted to main roads and can be utilised in other locations (subject to a safety assessment).
If you would like to volunteer to help Thames Valley Police together with Deddington Parish Council, please contact the Clerk [email protected]
